,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]Palmer defends Browns’ Wright
USC guys stick together, even when they play for division rivals in the NFL.
Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer joined Browns coach Eric Mangini in defending Cleveland cornerback Eric Wright, who was beaten by Ravens receiver [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] for three touchdowns Sunday at Baltimore.
Palmer played at Southern Cal from 1998-2002, from 2003-05 before transferring to UNLV.
Wright played perhaps the worst game of his four-year career against the Ravens.
Asked if he’d be looking for Wright when the Bengals visit the Browns this weekend, Palmer said, ”I’m not sure if it was the worst game of his career. He was in a couple tough positions trying to cover guys. One play was on Cover 0 where there wasn’t any pressure on the quarterback and he was kind of hung out to dry.
”He’s been a very good football player since he was in college. I’ve played against him a handful of times, he’s very quick, he’s very fast, he has a good eye for the ball and he can cover guys one-on-one. He has everything you want in a corner.”
Palmer gave much credit to Pro Bowler [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who caught eight passes for 142 yards, most of them against Wright.
”I think a couple times Anquan made really good plays and very difficult plays to stop on him,” Palmer said. ”I wouldn’t say in any way that he’s a guy you would look to pick on. I think he’s one of the better corners, especially in this division.
”In no way is he a guy that we’re looking at as a weak link. He’s a very physical and capable corner.”
Told that Palmer had praised him, Wright made a reference to USC and said, ”That’s my boy.”
