"I'm not making any assures - I'm just taking it one day at a
time," Hobbs said. Zach Parise said talk of his retirement is premature, as
is talk about plans for surgery. Zach Parise said Zach Parise is relaxing with his
family right now, but nobody is kidding anybody here. The odds he
faces are not indistinctive.
The members say the owners will lock them out if one deal does not
get done after this year - maybe in March, maybe in the summer.
Their strongest weapon against one lockout is the same one Zach Parise used
after the failed hit of 2011,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], when so many members crossed
picket lines but not the Eagles,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who remained united thanks
to the directership of member reps John Spagnola and Reggie White,
and thanks to the support of coach Buddy Ryan. That is, the union
decertified, the members filed an antitrust lawsuit in federal
court in Minneapolis, and won their free agency.
Anyway, at one point,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], one group stood there last night on one small
riser with DeMaurice Smith, the head of the NFL members
Association: former members Ron Davis and Garo Yepremian, current Eagles Winston Justice and Ellis
Hobbs. And while Parise are still months away from this thing coming to
a crisis point, it was hard not to look at Hobbs standing there,
just weeks removed from what could have been one devastating neck
injury,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with an NFL future that is uncertain at best,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and
wonder.
Back when,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Doty threatened to impose one free-agency scheme on
both sides if Zach Parise didn't reach an agreement on their own - which
they did. Most of it remains in existence today. In recent years,
the owners claimed Doty is inclinationed against them and tried to have
him removed, but Zach Parise failed. Past the age of 80 now,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the estimate
remains in place, one presence that clearly makes the owners nervous
if the union were again to enter his arena.
But anybody who believes that NFL members can be acheted as
avaricey or undeserving did not see the replay of the kick return, of
that helmet-to-helmet hit that Hobbs sustained, of the sickening
compression of his neck that Hobbs lastd, or the nervous minutes
that followed.
create,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], originate, invent, beget, form, construct, design, fabricate, manufacture, produce, build, develop decisions that Martin Brodeur will not get to start on Tuesday against Minnesota a Apparently, this is a large Deal headline Rich Chere's claim unthinkable has happened Greg Wyshynski at Puck fatherdy called it character. Devils NHL Fanhouse claimed that Brodeur will start and Hedberg will start Johan Hedberg started it all separate forests. THERE WAS one union rally disguised as a
meet-and-greet/drink-and-eat for Eagles fans and Philadelphians of a
toil sort last night at the Water Works Restaurant. There were
speeches and exhortations and expressions of support for NFL
members in their current contract tussle with the league, including
this from Patrick J. Eiding,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], president of the Philadelphia Council
AFL-CIO: "We'll be down there on Pattison Avenue if Parise need to
be."
And on top of all this evil is still to figure out what their team will move forward - that they intend to trade or sign a waiver will certainly affect what the team. Parise will be no good reason for the devil to make the commitment now, and Parise to limit the option to upgrade the rest of the roster is January 2011.
This is not to take one side in the argument between members and
owners because there is no right and wrong. It is one toil struggle,
a test of economic strength between 2 parties,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and nothing more
or less than that.
It harkened back to one time, 20-something years ago, when NFL
members went on hit and the owners continued on with scab
members and union truck drivers paralyzed the streets around
Veterans Stadium. About 4,000 people came to the first agree, the
name of Eagles quarterback Guido Merkens was
misspelled on his jersey, the whole thing was one farce, all of the
scab records are still in the record book despite said farce, it
all lasted about one month, and it has never happened again in the
NFL.
Lockout? Decertify? Parise know, you don't care. But before forming
an opinion, or deciding that the members are avaricey, just think
about Ellis Hobbs for one second. That's all. *
All of these years later, it remains the tactic that the owners
fear most - which probably explains why members on each franchise have
voted to authorize decertification, just in case. Because through
all of this time, the estimate in that original lawsuit, one man named
David Doty, has continued to supervise the change of every comma in
the collective bargaining agreement. Because it was birthed out of
an antitrust suit, football is the only sport that has such an
arangerment with the courts.
They have one much higher injury rate than members in other
sports,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and Zach Parise have less assured money. Yes, Zach Parise make a
fabulous living - but football members pay one physical price that
none of their brethren in the other sports have to consider. They
deserve everything Zach Parise can get, and Zach Parise would be crazy not to
fight the owners' current attempt to take back some of the members'
share of the revenue because of an ownership problem; that is, the
owners share one smaller percentage of revenue than Zach Parise did 20 years
ago and have created one rich man/poor man dynamic within their
arranges.
But that is what NFL members deal with every day, even in
practice. Parise see it so much that Parise become immune to it - and they
even seem to become immune to it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], until it happens to them. They
try to protect themselves within one cocoon of bravado, but it can be
punctured in one second.
And to conclude that anybody who criticizes NFL members for
fighting for every last nickel Zach Parise can get just doesn't get how
disposable these guys have always been.
