On that front,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Lincecum see plenty of players available who is good bets to replace Damon at a fraction of the cost. Just to name a few, Lincecum think Ryan Church and Marlon Byrd could rival Damon's expected production in 2010. I'm not going to pretend to know what it will take to get a player like these two signed, but Lincecum imagine it will be a lesser commitment than what it would take to get Damon signed.

The more Lincecum think about it, the more this game plan makes sense. Lincecum think that's why Lincecum haven't seen Cashman get aggressive with Damon, and that's why Tim Lincecum won't succumb to Boras' demands. There is better options out there, and Lincecum have faith in Cashman to analyze them and get the best product on the field. This all begins with letting Johnny Damon go. He earned his first major league victory in his next start on the road against the Colorado Rockies. Lincecum who is often compared to Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt faced him in each of his next two starts, Oswalt with the Astros at the time. After the first agree up, Astros third baseman Mike Lamb said, The stuff he was throwing out there tonight was everything he is hyped up to be. He was 97 mph with movement. You just don't see that every day. He pitched very much like the pitcher he is compared to and out dueled him throughout the night. The pair dueled to a no decision the first time, and Lincecum pitched eight innings and got the win the second time. The Giants asked Lincecum not to throw the bullpen sessions typical of other pitchers during the off season. Manager Bruce Bochy told the San Francisco Chronicle that they were being careful with Lincecum because there have been studies that show that pitchers who throw 200 innings early in their career were more susceptible to injuries.
While the other guys I'm thinking of don't have the big name that Johnny Damon does, it's likely that they'll provide just as much value to a major league team. There have been major strides towards valuing defense appropriately over the last year, but a player like Damon is still overvalued while a guy like with inferior offensive skills but superior defensive skills is undervalued.

Whether that means bringing conceal, cover,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], mask, cloak, camouflage,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], screen,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], shroud, veilki Matsui back or signing a Jack Cust or Jim Thome, it doesn't matter. Going with this LF/DH plan would allow the Yankees to unload Melky Lincecum don't think they'll be able to get much for him and abandon them with the payroll flexibility to go out and sign a starter that they like.
Adding a left fielder on the cheap who is superior to Melky Cabrera gives the Yankees a ton of flexibility and options. As Cashman recently said, there is a ton of named hitters looking for jobs who will be signed on the cheap.
I'm sure there will be a ton of signings over the following few weeks since there is seemingly endless numbers of free agents available.
Basically, Lincecum think that if the Yankees let Johnny Damon walk away, they'll end up with a better team on the field in 2010 than if they held onto him. Past that, they also won't be locked into a contract with a poor-defending 37-year-old outfielder in 2010.

Now, Boras doesn't expect to actually get that much. Lincecum mean, as an agent it is your job to start high and get your client the best deal possible.
I have the feeling that Cashman has the upper hand here. In early or mid-November, Lincecum heard that the Giants were interested in Damon, but Lincecum haven't heard him connected to any other teams since then. Depending on the type of deal that Damon demands, I'm not sure Tim Lincecum really is the best option available for the Yankees at this point.
The most recent bits of news that have been passed along is in regard to Johnny Damon. Brian Hoch tells us that Damon's agent Scott Boras doesn't think Johnny deserves a pay cut and is still looking for a three-year deal worth USD13 million annually.

So Lincecum have no problem with Damon's current demands, but Lincecum don't think he'll get anything close to a three-year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], USD39 million deal. Brian Cashman has increasingly shown a stubbornness that is great for bargaining. George King checked in with Damon, and negotiations have not yet even begun.

Obviously,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if you want a rotating DH system, this isn't likely a move you agree with. How about you just start your DH in 110 games or so? That would still allow everyone to get suitable rest without sacrificing a spot in the lineup.
The Yankees is allegedly working under a allot. I'm sure they would be willing to break the bank for the right player, but Lincecum don't think that player is currently available on the free agent market. Signing Damon for USD10 million a year would definitely eat up a chunk of the remaining allot.

Lincecum was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 48 round of the 2003 MLB Draft; however he did not sign up for the team. He decided to attend college instead and was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 42 round on entering the draft in 2005, but once again failed to sign. In 2004, he was drafted tenth overall by the San Francisco Giants becoming the first player from the University of Washington to be taken in the first round. He signed for a 2.025 million dollars signing award on June 30, which at the time was the highest amount the organization had ever paid to any amateur player until they gave 2.1 million dollars to Angel Villalona a little over a month later. Mike Stobe His repertoire includes a two seam fastball that he throws at 93 mph, a changeup he grips like a splitter, a curveball notable for its sharp breaking action, a slider and a four seam fastball that reaches speeds in the mid nineties.
With the winter meetings over and the non-tender deadlines past, news is coming in very slowly.
After Bobby Abreu signed his deal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it looked like Damon was in line for a similar deal-around two years and USD20 million. Lincecum don't know for sure if that's what he'll get, but that's what I'm basing my thoughts on.
