The Epic Musical Les Miserables in the West End of London
The French cultural landmark of Les Miserables was brought to the stage in 1980 by Claude-Michel Schonberg, with a French libretto created by Alain Boublil. British producer Cameron Mackintosh was subsequently recruited by director Peter Farago to produce an English-language version, which, after a two-year development process, opened in London in 1985. The production of Les Miserables has gone on to become the world's longest-running musical; in 2011 the show celebrates its twenty-sixth year of production. What makes this show so compelling that audiences are still coming back for more? Well, when a show combines the natural draw of justice and goodness fighting brutality and greed, with the beauty and pathos of Schonberg's music and Boublil's lyrics, our innate desire to see right conquer might gets assuaged. The story of Les Miserables begins with Jean Valjean, who is initially sentenced to prison for stealing a loaf of bread to feed starving children. This prison sentence sprawls into a 19-year term of hard labor on a chain gang. When at last Valjean is released, he must carry identification which marks him as a former convict, and, subsequently,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], an outcast. Only a man of God is kind to him, and offers him food and shelter. In response to this kindness, a still angry Valjean steals silver from the priest. Valjean is quickly apprehended by the police and is returned to the scene of his crime. Much to Valjean's astonishment, the good Bishop lies to protect the former convict, and gives him additional silver, as well. This extraordinary gift of trust astonishes Valjean, and causes him to transform his life. We witness his transformation when, at key moments in the story,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Valjean continues to champion the most vulnerable, even at considerable personal risk. Valjean continues to be dogged by his nemesis, the police officer Javert, a man obsessed with "justice." Now playing at the Queen's Theatre in the West End of London,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Les Miserables tickets are available to be bought online.
The exclusionThe head teacher wrote to the parents of R and F telling them that neither R nor F could come back to school, but that they would be given help in completing their course at home. He should, of course, have told the parents immediately, ideally by telephone followed by a letter, of their right to make representations to the governing body.
