Armed militants Thursday night kidnapped eight election workers and 10 campaigners of a candidate running for Afghanistan's second parliamentary elections in northwest Badghis province,Tiffany, a local official said Friday.
"Armed militants kidnapped 18 people including eight staffs of the election commission and 10 campaigners of Muhammad Shahm, who has stood for upcoming election, in Muqur district Thursday," district chief Muqur Muhammad Anzali told Xinhua.
He said security officials with the help of local elders are trying to find the hostages in Muqur and neighboring remote areas.
Muqur district in Badghis province has been the scene of Taliban-led violence over the past one year.
Taliban militants who have vowed to derail the election process have yet to make comments.
Afghanistan's second parliamentary election in the post-Taliban country is going to be held on Saturday amid tight security.
