Shane Embury Interview on Absolute Power
European Rock and Metal Festivals
In 2004 Dimmu Borgir toured as part of Ozzfest across the United States, getting them in front of new audiences and earning them new fans. It would be 2007 before they would release their next album, "In Sorte Diaboli." They took a cue from any number of progressive rock and classic rock bands and went with a full on concept album. The storyline was very anti-Christian, though, earning them accolades in some circles and condemnation in others. Even those who took offense at the lyrics, though (like All Music Guide's Thom Jurek), found the music to be compelling and powerful. In fact, that reviewer in particular made comparison to The Who's "Tommy."
2003 saw the release of “Death Cult Armageddon.” Where previous Dimmu Borgir albums had really pushed the envelope from the previous release, “Death Cult Armageddon” seemed to refine and expand upon the musical horizons created by its predecessor. Once more an orchestra was added to the arrangements, bringing a new layer of sound and complexity. In the case of “Death Cult Armageddon [link widoczny dla zalogowanych],” though [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], that orchestra was the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Given the fact that “Death Cult Armageddon” expanded on the ideas of "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia,” it seems likely that the discs would attract the same fans and the same critics.
In Sorte Diaboli
While Dimmu Borgir came from and were part of the Norwegian black metal scene, the 1990s showed that they would not be confined to that type of sound. They had forged a version of the genre that had all the brutality, but was coupled with an operatic beauty and complex arrangements. The 2000s saw an expansion of both the sound of Dimmu Borgir and their fan base.

Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia
While a live DVD has been released since “In Sorte Diaboli,” that has been the only real new output from the group since 2007. It seems likely [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], though, that there will be new musical horizons and challenges ahead for Dimmu Borgir, resulting in a new studio release at some point.
2001's "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia" showed off a new guitarist (Galder formerly of Old Man's Child) and drummer (Nicholas Barker best known for his work in Cradle of Filth) for Dimmu Borgir. In addition, the symphonic elements in the group's music were becoming more pronounced. In fact, the Gothenburg Opera Orchestra was featured on the album. It was a far stretch from the sounds of "For All Tid," but represented a logical transition taken disc by disc.
