Temat postu: jordan spizike Overlooked Live Albums From the Sev
Zeppelin had a knack for making their album versions redundant with their spectacular live work. BBC Sessions continued this tradition. "Immigrant Song" and "Thank You" have extended Jimmy Page solos. The instrumental break in "Heartbreaker" shows why John Paul Jones and John Bonham were Rock’s most rhythmically complex and swinging tandem. Robert Plant’s vocals on "Going to California" are nearly perfect, and the whole band shines on the seamless oldies medley in "Whole Lotta Love."
Bon Scott-era AC/DC were a band that had a terrific live reputation. However, their album sales didn’t skyrocket until after Scott’s death in 1980. 1978’s If You Want Blood You Got It gave the public a taste of that live prowess

, but Live From the Atlantic Studios, despite some song overlap, is actually preferable, as it shows a more raw and primal set from the group.
Even though Jimmy Page allegedly used the master tapes, a more complete and even better sounding version of this entire gig was circulating on the underground trading scene before 1997. It emanated from a Japanese radio broadcast which aired in the mid-Nineties.
The Seventies were rife with live shows being shelved only to resurface a generation later. The course of each band's career might have differed, and their respective live legacies bolstered even more, had these seminal albums emerged at the time they were recorded. The Led Zeppelin and James Brown titles are available for MP3 download at itunes and lala.com. AC/DC has boycotted itunes, continuing the anti-commercial stance first started during the Bon Scott years.

, the definitive "No Quarter", and the best ever solo for "Stairway to Heaven" -- but overall it was a spotty tribute to perhaps the most lauded live act of the Seventies. BBC Sessions rectifies that situation. (2003’s How the West was Won rectified it even further.)
Typically the phrase “underrated Led Zeppelin” is an oxymoron. Somehow, BBC Sessions didn’t generate the kind of buzz it deserved when it came out in 1997. Disc two of the release highlights the majority of a superlative gig from Led Zeppelin’s heyday in early 1971.
James Brown is often called the “Godfather of Soul”, but from 1969-1971 he was at the cutting edge of funk. Love Power Peace: Live at the Olympia, Paris, 1971 captures Brown and his band at the apogee of their flight. His earlier release Live at the Apollo gets all the attention, but this one, which was finally released in 1992

, represents his best available live work.
"Dog Eat Dog" was a relative live rarity, so its inclusion is nice. But it’s the breakneck boogie of "Whole Lotta Rosie" segueing into "Rocker" that illustrates why this early incarnation of AC/DC will never be topped for pure yet inspired simplicity. This show is only available as part of 1997’s Bonfire box set. Most fans would agree Live From the Atlantic Studios might be worth the price of the box alone.
