| When pedigree doesn't matter
WR Randy Moss, Minnesota . . . Moss always has extra motivation against the Dallas Cowboys, who passed on him in the 1998 draft, and has routinely scorched them in the past. Now that he's settled into the Vikings offence, he's due for a big game. This season? How about Peyton Hillis? The bruising Browns runner was drafted by Denver in the seventh round of the 2008 draft and was certainly an afterthought in fantasy circles at the beginning of this season. But behind a hefty Cleveland O-line that has finally reached its potential, Hillis posted back-to-back 100-yard-plus weeks earlier this season. While it's hard to recommend him against Pittsburgh this week, it's clear he's arrived.QB Philip Rivers, San Diego . . . St. Louis allowed Shaun Hill to pass for 227 yards and three TDs against them last week. Now they're facing the NFL's hottest QB. Averaging 351.8 yards per game, it would be no shock to see Rivers surpass 400 in this one. TE Chris Cooley, Washington . . . The Indianapolis Colts are giving up just 26.4 yards a game to tight ends. Cooley should do better than that, but play another matchup if you can afford to. Monster playsYour own risk Brady, of course, is widely regarded as the most successful player without pedigree in NFL history - he went from sixth-round pick in 2000 to one of the top 10 quarterbacks of all time. Two years ago, it was New Orleans running back Pierre Thomas, the undrafted sensation who came out of nowhere to lead the Saints in rushing. RB Marshawn Lynch, Seattle . . . Eventually Lynch will be a decent start, but his first game with a new team is against the ferocious run defence of the Chicago Bears. Who will be the winner of the Tom Brady Award for 2010? TE Kellen Winslow Jersey, Tampa Bay . . . The former phenom has had yet to record a touchdown this year, but the Saints have been one of the weakest defences in the NFL against tight ends, and Kellen Winslow Jersey is gaining steam, catching six passes for 75 yards against the Bengals in Week 5.QB Colt McCoy, Cleveland . . . Poor kid. The amazing feeling of making his first NFL start will quickly fade when the Steel Curtain runs onto the field. This one will be ugly. RB Rashard Mendenhall, Pittsburgh . . . Big Ben is back in the driver's seat for the Pittsburgh offence, but that will actually help their bruising running back,NCAA Jerseys, especially with Cleveland's defence in disarray. Expect a decent amount of yardage, but it's the goal-line touchdown opportunities that make Mendenhall a monster this week. WR Donald Driver, Green Bay . . . He's expected to go against Miami corner Vontae Davis, who cemented his reputation as one of the league's premier shutdown guys when he blanked Randy Moss in Week 4. Last season, it was Dallas receiver Miles Austin, who became a Pro Bowler, three years after every team passed on him in the draft. |
