Panthers bench Clausen; Moore back as starter
The winless Chris Cooley jersey Carolina Panthers benched struggling rookie quarterback Jimmy Clausen on Monday, turning over the NFL’s worst offense back to Matt Moore.
Coach John Fox announced the move in a statement through a team spokesman after Carolina (0-5) returned for a light workout and meetings following its bye weekend. Moore, who was benched after six turnovers in the first two games,NBA Jerseys, will start Sunday against San Francisco (1-5).
“We have struggled on offense since the beginning of the season,” said Fox, whose team is averaging 10.4 points a game. “Sometimes it helps to step back and watch and Matt has had a chance to do that.”
Fox yanked Clausen late in Carolina’s last game, a 23-6 loss to Chicago on Oct. 10 in which top receiver Steve Smith (ankle) was sidelined. Moore quickly threw two interceptions late against the Bears, and has two touchdown passes, six picks, two lost fumbles and a 33.3 passer rating.
Eagles’ Jackson likely out vs. Titans: Eagles coach Andy Reid said it will be a “real stretch” for receiver DeSean Jackson to play Sunday against Tennessee after suffering a concussion.
Jackson was injured in a nasty head-on collision with Atlanta cornerback Dunta Robinson. Jackson had soreness in his neck and shoulders on Monday. Typical for concussions, Reid said Jackson did not remember the hit that knocked him out.
Reid also said Kevin Kolb will likely start at quarterback against the Titans. Michael Vick was the third QB vs. the Falcons and still hasn’t fully recovered from injured rib cartilage that he sustained two weeks ago.
Atlanta announced Robinson also has a concussion following his hit on Jackson.
Redskins’ Cooley to see specialist over concussion: Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley jersey will see a specialist after suffering a concussion in the team’s loss to Indianapolis.
Coach Mike Shanahan said Cooley will be evaluated over the next couple of days.
Shanahan says he isn’t certain when the injury occurred, but fellow tight end Fred Davis says Cooley took “a head shot” from a defender while running a pass route.
Teammates say Cooley kept trying to play after the injury, contrary to the NFL’s emphasis that head injuries should be treated with extra caution.
Shanahan says Cooley was just being a competitor and “probably didn’t think it was anything big.”
Linebacker Rocky McIntosh missed Sunday’s game after suffering a concussion a week earlier against Green Bay. |
