Millions of women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment will soon benefit from a breakthrough by an Australian researcher,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], local media reported on Thursday.Professor Sarah Robertson of Australia's Adelaide University has partnered with a Danish company ORIGIO a/s,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to develop a product, EmbryoGen,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which improves IVF embryo implantation rates for some women by up to 40 percent.

She said research found for the first time that growth factor molecules are critical to ensuring optimal embryo development.The resulting product,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], EmbryoGen,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to be released in 2011,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], contains a signaling molecule called GM-CSF found naturally in the mother's tissues which protects the embryo from stress,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], making it stronger and more robust in the early implantation period.
Clinical trials with 1,319 IVF patients resulted in an average 20 percent improvement in embryo implantation rates at 12 weeks for all IVF women whose embryos developed in EmbryoGen.The effect is primarily due to benefits for women who had previously miscarried, who showed a 40 percent increase in implantation success.
"EmbryoGen is not only completely safe and natural it contains signaling molecules that the embryo expects to find in the mother' s body but our data from animal studies shows that it may also result in IVF babies that are larger and healthier at birth,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Prof Robertson said.EmbryoGen will be launched in Europe and the Middle East within six months,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and in the U.S. late next year.
